Abstract

1311188 Hydrostatic transmission control B C WILKINS 15 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 29600/70 Heading F2D [Also in Division F1] A hydrostatic transmission comprises a variable delivery pump 11 controlled to provide a constant delivery pressure 13 which is supplied to two or more motors 21, 24, 30, 44 which are respectively controlled to provide constant output torque, power or speed. The pump delivery pressure is supplied to a pressure responsive servo 15 which adjusts the pump displacement to provide a constant delivery pressure. Alternatively the pump delivery pressure may be supplied to a pressure responsive servo 16 which controls the speed of a driving engine 10 to provide a constant delivery pressure from the pump 11. The motor 21 is set to and maintained at a constant displacement to provide a constant torque at its output 23. The displacement of the motor 24 is varied by a pressure sensitive servo 27 in accordance with the pressure drop across an orifice 28 in the motor return line 29 to provide a constant power at its output 26. The displacement of the motor 30 and a variable throttle valve 34 are adjusted by a pressure sensitive servo 33 responsive to the pressure drop across the throttle valve 34 to provide a constant speed at the motor output 32. The linearly acting motor 44 is connected between two motors 39a, 39b which are connected hydraulically in series and have their rotors 40a, 40b connected together. The inlet to the motor 39a is connected to the high pressure line 13 whilst the outlet from the motor 39b is connected to the return line 45. If the displacement of the motors 39a, 39b are maintained in set positions a constant pressure is supplied to the motor 44. To maintain a constant flow to the motor 44, irrespective of pressure, the displacement of the motor 39b is set to a value giving maximum permitted pressure to the motor 44 (when the displacement of the motor 39a is maximum) and controlling the displacement of the motor 39a in accordance with the flow required to the hydrostatic motor 44. To maintain a constant power at the motor 44 the displacement of the motor 39b is set to a position giving maximum pressure (when the displacement of the motor 39a is maximum) and controlling the displacement of the motor 39a to maintain a constant flow into the inlet port 42a of the motor 39a. An accumulator 48 may be provided in the high pressure line 13.
