Abstract
1311136 Ventilating closets A C PALEY 22 Oct 1970 [24 Oct 1969] 50274/70 Heading E1C Ventilating means for the pan of a sanitary closet comprises a hollow body having openings to the interior of the pan and an exhaust outlet, and which may either be in the form of a seat or be shaped in the form of a hook member (Fig. 7) for insertion between the pan 18 and a seat 17, the body in each case being composed of two sections in one of which the openings are provided, the sections being detachably secured together so that they may be separated for cleaning the interior of the body. In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, a hollow seat is composed of upper and lower sections 1, 2 of plastics material secured together detachably by lugs 5, 6 formed integrally with the respective sections to clip over the opposite edge of the opposite section in each case when the two sections are brought together. The two sections are preferably additionally connected by a hinge 10, the lower section having openings 7 to the interior of the pan whilst the upper section includes an exhaust outlet 8 for connection to a suction fan and filter assembly (not shown). In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), the lower section 2 is of smaller width than the upper section 1 and fits partially within the latter with a force fit. In a modification of this embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the upper section includes a depending guard flange to protect the openings (7), which are in the form of cut-outs in the inside edge of the lower section, against the entry of external matter. In the hook-shaped ventilating means of Fig. 7 (also Fig. 8, not shown), foul air passes via inlet opening 19 to the interior of the body which is formed of two sections 22, (23) which partially telescope within one another (at 21, Fig. 8, not shown) so that they may be separated for cleaning the interior, the air then passing to an exhaust outlet 8. T'he connections between the seat sections of the previous embodiments may be modified (Figs. 9-12, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 13, not shown), the body is in the form of a lifting seat hinged at its rear portion, the exhaust outlet being offset so as to terminate is a portion extending along the axis of the hinge.
