Abstract
1311037 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 29 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12078/71 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press has a billet holder 15 slidable axially in the pressure chamber 2 and the holder has a relief valve 19 so that a part 16a of the pressure chamber bore can be pressurized intially while the other part 16b remains full of air so that the fluid is not heated and boiled for a long period by a hot billet 27 to be extruded. The bore part 16a is initially pressurized by a pump 37a through a duct 35 which has a relief valve 42 to keep the pressure below the opening pressure of the valve 19 in the holder. When the billet 27 and the die 9 have been fully engaged with the chamber 2 a slide valve 34 is actuated to connect the bore part 16a to a high pressure pump 38a. The higher pressure opens the valve 19 in the holder to pressurize the bore part 16b, and the pressuregenerating punch 5 is advanced to cause hydrostatic extrusion. After the extrusion the slide valve 52 is activated so that pressure fluid is sprayed into the bore part 16b to cool the extrusion fluid, the billet and the die. The chamber 2 is then retracted to allow the discard to be cut from the extruded product by a machine (60), Fig. 9 (not shown).
