1311005 Dibenzocycloheptene derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 23 March 1970 [4 April 1969] 37785/72 Divided out of 1311004 Heading C2C Novel compounds I: (in which Z is -CH=CH- or -CH 2 -CH 2 -) are prepared by reacting a compound II: (in which R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl) with hydrazine and subjecting the resulting carbohydrazide of Formula III: to rearrangement and cyclization in an acidic medium using a metal nitrite. Compounds II in which Z is -CH = CH- are prepared from the corresponding dibenzocyclohepten-5-one by the Reformatsky reaction.
