Abstract

1310236 Morpholine derivatives IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24668/70 Heading C2C Compounds (I) and their salts where R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or α- aralkyl; R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are H or alkyl and Z is halogen or sulphonyloxy are prepared by replacing in a compound (I, Z = OH), the OH group by halogen or a sulphonyloxy group. The compounds (I) may further be reacted with X-OH to give a compound (II) where R<SP>7</SP> is H or alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl and X is optionally substituted aryl; the compounds (II) wherein R<SP>7</SP> is H being formed from (I, R<SP>1</SP> = α-aralkyl) by hydrogenolysis or by reaction with an alkyl or aryl chloroformate followed by hydrolysis of the alkoxy- or aryloxy carbonyl derivative formed. 4 - Benzyl - 2 - hydroxymethylmorpholine is prepared from benzylamine and allyl glycidyl ether through 1 - allyloxy - 3 - benzylamino - 2- propanol, N - (3 - allyloxy - 2 - hydroxypropyl)- N - benzylchloroacetamide, allyloxymethyl - 4- benzylmorpholin - 5 - one and 2 - allyloxymethyl- 4 - benzylmorpholine (as the acid oxalate). Similarly are prepared 4-methyl-, -isopropylallyl- and -cyclopentyl - derivatives and 4- benzyl - 2 - hydroxymethyl - 6 - methylmorpholine. 5 - Benzyloxy - 2 - ethoxy phenol is prepared from 4-benzyloxyphenol and benzoyl peroxide through 4 - benzyloxy - 2 - hydroxyphenylbenzoate and 4 - benzyloxy - 2 - (tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)phenylbenzoate.
