Abstract
1309620 Knitting-machines J P STEVENS & CO Inc 8 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 26874/72 Divided out of 1300785 Heading D1C A weft thread transport apparatus for a warp machine comprises a frame carrying guides for each thread, which lays weft between two endless chains 2L, 2R which carry the wefts to the knitting line. In the embodiment of Figs. 2, 3 yarns from a package support 28 are threaded through a frame 30 which moves in a figure of eight path in a vertical plane. The frame 30 is vertically movable, by means of an oscillating rod 39, in an outer frame 32 drawn across the machine by chains 33. The cycle of the frame 30 is as follows. In a lower position the threads are engaged by the pins of one chain, e.g. 2R, the frame moves slantingly upwards and deposits the threads on the other chain 2L, where they are cut. The frame is lowered to depsit the threads on the next set of pins or chain 2L. Similar slanting upwards then downwards movement completes the figure of eight path. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4, a very large number of threads from a package support 45 are drawn across the two chains by a frame 46. At the right hand side the threads are placed in a bar 51. On return of the frame to the left hand side, it and the bar are lowered to deposit the threads on the chain.
