Abstract

1309476 Foundation blocks; embankments S KATO 14 Aug 1970 [16 Aug 1969] 39193/70 Heading E1B Elongate concrete blocks A1a, A1b, and A1c used to form honeycomb structures in the formation of embankments, roadbeds or building foundations have at each end a projection 2 inclined to the longitudinal axis and a recess defined therebehind, the projection of one block engaging in the recess of a second while the projection of the second engages in the recess of a third, the projections of which engages the recess of the first. A further projection 4 has a face abutting the side wall of an adjacent block and provided with a pocket 5 mating with a pocket 5a in the side wall to receive mortar to hold the assembled blocks together. The blocks may be apertured or recessed, reinforcement being included in therein in the build up of a honeycombed structure. T blocks, corner blocks, keying blocks and integral blocks corresponding to three of the above blocks are also included. The projections 2 may be straight sided in a modification. The honeycombed structure is filled with sand and gravel to form an embankment for an elevated road which may have perpendicular or even undercut sidewalls.
