Abstract

1309285 Panelled structure L ZETLIN 10 June 1970 [17 June 1969] 28036/70 Headings E1W and E1A A roof or wall structure is formed of members 7 bounded on opposite sides by tension or compression members 9, 8 which do not have a common plane and are arranged such that their spacing ad at one end is greater than their spacing bc at the other. A substantially continuously curved surface 6 is engaged by vibration dampening flexible cables extending between the members 9, 8 and is formed of interlocking metal or plastics panels 30 extending between the members 9, 8. Two members 7, 7' are joined with a common member 8 to form a structure 5 or the structure 5 may be built up from prefabricated elements as in Fig. 7 (not shown). The structure 5 may form part of a composite hanger roof 3 cantilevered from a central support lattice work structure 1, 1a, 1b see Fig. 3 and the hanger roofs 2 with two cantilevered spans 3, 4 may be joined along a common edge to form a larger structure as in Fig. 15 (not shown). The members 8, 9 may be I-section metal beams or those of the members subject to compression may be concrete. Various configurations of flexible cables may be used both to transfer load on the structure and to dampen vibration. The tension in the cables may be adjusted, see Fig. 11 (not shown) to vary the strength characteristics under different dynamic loads.
