Abstract

1308080 Measuring fluid flow M J GOODYER 6 Aug 1971 [8 Aug 1970 8 Jan 1971] 38322/70 and 953/71 Heading G1R In a method of, or apparatus for, sensing the total or stagnation pressure of a subsonic or supersonic gas stream 10 a part of the stream is directed on to a surface 11 curved about an axis 13 disposed at right-angles to the gas flow and the gas flow is decelerated and compressed without shock wave formation to a lower subsonic or supersonic flow where it reaches a zone 19 at which zone a pressure sensing device 16, located clear of a boundary layer on the surface, measures the total or stagnation pressure of the gas flow. The surface 11 may have a circular or elliptical cross-section which may be tapered along the centre line 17. A pair of static pressure tappings 21 may be located symmetrically on either side of the surface 11 or a centre tapping 20 may be provided. One or more surfaces 11 in the direction of flow of the gas stream may be provided.
