Abstract
1307795 Automatic circuit-breaking HEINEMANN ELECTRIC CO 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 22164/71 Heading H1N In an electric circuit-breaker assembly incorporating an electromagnetic tripping device, such as of the type described in Specification 1,278,028, one or more casing assemblies as 12, 13, Fig. 2, of insulating material are secured to a base-plate 46 carrying a plurality of terminals as 32, Fig. 9, 32<SP>1</SP>, 42, 42<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, or other projections coacting with recessed regions 139, on the casing parts 17, 18 to hold the casings and base-plates together, the assembly being enclosed by a hollow housing 11. Each breaker assembly 12, 13 may comprise casing halves 16 and 17 or 18 and 19 having coacting formations such as corresponding lipped edges 104, 105, Fig. 3, and recesses 82, 83, 84 for arc-extinguishing magnetic metal grids 78, 79, 80. Elongated slots 85, 89 in the casing flanges permit the casings parts (as 16) to be slid sidewise until the flange portions 89 engage under the terminal contact heads 32, 42 &c. After assembly of the lower two casing parts 16, 17, Fig. 2, the upper two casing parts 18, 19 are assembled loosely and a spacer 86 subsequently inserted to raise the lower casing part 18 into co-operating engagement with the terminal heads 32<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP>. One end wire of each circuit breaker coil 40 is soldered to the terminal 42 or 42<SP>1</SP>. After assembly, hollow outer housing 11, Fig. 13, carrying the actuating lever 21 is pushed over the casings which are provided with projections 142, Fig. 5, to engage the front wall of the housing 11. Actuating levers 23, 23<SP>1</SP> projecting through slots 106 in the casing wall are linked by a common rod 95, Fig. 2, whereby the manual actuator lever 21, Fig. 13, having a forked end 22 engageable with a contact collar 107 on the shaft 95 may operate both circuit breakers simultaneously. Slots 130 are provided on one side wall of each casing for the common trip rod 97 having projections 98, 99 for engagement with the trip mechanism 7 3 and moving pivot contact 30 respectively and also serving to locate the rod 97 end-wise.
