Abstract
1307352 Change-speed gear SELF CHANGING GEARS Ltd 17 March 1970 [18 Dec 1968] 60250/68 Heading F2D A four-speed and reverse main planet gear M, having three or more trains is arranged in series ahead of an auxiliary planet gear A, having three trains, one, 28, providing a reduction ratio, another, 29, an overdrive ratio, and a third, 30, an extra high overdrive ratio. Input and output connections are both on the same right hand side of the gear, input and final output shafts 4, 3 being concentric, output being taken from a pinion 5. The main gear M is the usual Wilson gear, driving an intermediate output shaft 1, and comprising a train 12, having an input sun 15, an output carrier on the shaft 1, and a ring 16 brakeable for first ratio, and accelerated in steps for second and third by braking th ring and carrier respectively of second and third trains 13, 14; a direct-drive lock-up clutch 22; and a braked ring-gear train 24 compounding with the primary train 12 for reverse. The auxiliary gear, A, driven by the intermediate output shaft 1 of the main gear M, has a reduction train 28, with output-carried planets, a braked ring 34 and an input sun 31 fast on the shaft 1; an overdrive train 29 having a braked sun 39, an input carrier on the shaft 1, and output ring 36 fast, through the first carrier 33, to the final output shaft 3; and an extra high overdrive train 30, which compounds with 29, and comprises a ring 41 connected to the second sun 39, a sun 46 fast on the intermediate output shaft 1 and a braked carrier 45. A central web 2 divides two of the auxiliary trains 28, 29, from the rest of the gear and has a lubricating passage 47. The gear provides small steps between twelve specified forward ratios extending from 10 to 1 to 0À56 to 1.
