Abstract

1305093 Packaging machines E BAUER 22 April 1970 [5 Jan 1970] 19309/70 Heading B8C In a packaging machine a group 10 of cans or bottles 1 is pushed by pushers 4 into a shoot 5 having a removable bottom 6 which is then withdrawn so that the cans 1 fall into a flanged tray 7. The cans 1 are fed against stops 3 in four parallel rows by an endless conveyer 2, and, when feelers (11, Figs. 4-6, not shown) detect that each row is complete, the stops 3 are retracted and the pushers 4 are raised to push the first three cans 1 in each row into the shoot 5. A flanged tray 7 is pushed onto a support 9 which is lowered when the tray has been filled so that a second pusher 12 can eject the filled tray 7. The cans 1 are guided into the tray 7 by pivoted flaps 8 situated below the shoot 5. The machine may be adapted to package fragile bottles 1 (Fig. 7), in which case the support 9 for an apertured tray 16 is apertured for the passage of supporting rods 15 carried by a reciprocating frame 14. Prior to withdrawing the bottom 6 of the shoot 5 the frame 14 is raised so that the bottles 1 fall only a short distance and are then supported by the rods15. The frame 14 is then lowered to lower the bottles into the tray 16.
