Abstract

1304808 Moulding hollow foamed articles MATTEL Inc 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970] 22794/71 Heading B5A A method of moulding a foamed plastics product comprises placing a moulding compound in a mould, heating the mould to foam the compound to fill the mould and to leave a cavity within the product, cooling the mould and directing a cooling gas into the cavity to set the cavity wall before removing the product. A doll body having an outer skin 21 and a foamed portion 23 is produced in a mould 11 having a closure cap 15; a cavity 25 remains after full expansion of the compound and after mould cooling. A tubular probe 29 is inserted into the cavity and a cooling gas, e.g. air, is supplied to the cavity via apertures 33. Such gas escapes from the cavity via passages formed between the probe and the body. A gas escape passage may be provided by a tube connected to and extending parallel to the probe.
