1303895 Electric kettles BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 6 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 45845/70 Heading A4A A lidless electric kettle has at least one outlet 70 separate from the spout and located at or towards the rear of the upper part of the body to allow steam to escape from the body when the kettle is tilted and this outlet forms or communicates with at least one vent so arranged and positioned that steam emerging therefrom is directed away from the hand grip portion of the kettle handle. The kettle may be of the type disclosed in Specification 1162139 having a flanged aperture 32, in its upper surface. The aperture is sealed by a cover plate 51 which may be integrally moulded with a frame 52 for the handle or the cover plate and frame may be formed separately and heat-sealed together. The handle frame is of channel section and the open side is covered by an enclosing member 53 held in place by projections 61 on its underside which are held in a boss 64 by a spring clip 63. The cover/ handle frame has a flange 40 which is held on a flange 34 around the aperture 32 of the kettle body. A sealing ring 36 is used and the cover/ handle frame attached by screw 65. A duct 71 is formed within the base of the handle by heatsealing a cover 74 to the bottom of the cover. The rearwardly facing end 73 of the duct allows steam to escape when the kettle is tilted. The front of the handle is fitted with a lowered insert 54. The steam passes along the duct and is ejected in a downward direction by the flaps 68 of the insert. The top of the insert blocks the channel of the handle.
