Abstract
1303602 Loud-speakers A SHACKMAN 12 March 1971 6649/71 Headings H4J and H4X Aloud-speaker assembly comprises at least two identical first loud-speaker units 3, 4 (Fig. 1) or 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (Fig. 4) and a second, smaller, loud-speaker unit 2 or 2c. In one arrangement, such as shown in Fig. 1, the axis of the smaller loudspeaker unit 2 is disposed in a common plane with the axes of the two first loudspeaker units 3, 4 and is symmetrically spaced from their axes. The axes are all parallel. In another arrangement, such as shown in Fig. 4, the axis of the smaller unit 2c is substantially equally spaced from the axes of the first loudspeaker units 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, disposed in a substantially symmetrical arrangement. Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) illustrate clusters of four and three first loud-speaker units. The first loud-speaker units are preferably high-excursion small diameter bass units. The smaller units are of electromagnetic or electostatic type. The housing 1 (Fig. 1) contains conventional sound absorbing material or is of labyrinth construction.
