Abstract
1303245 Electro-machining turbine blades D W DRAYCOTT and C I WILLIAMS (trading as MOUNT ENG. CO) 18 Sept 1970 [28 June 1969 32789/69 Heading C7B The longitudinal edge of a metallic aerofoil blade is radiussed in an electro-machining operation, the edge being located in spaced relative to the working surface of an electrode, from which surface electrolyte flows towards the edge during machining. As shown in Fig.5 a cathode block having a working face 10 has an opening there through from electrolyte inlet 30 converging to a narrow passage 18 terminating in slit 14 in the working face. The slit is co-extensive with the length of the edge of the blade 13 and is shaped so that an imaginary surface medial of the longitudinal walls defining the slit intersects the blade substantially medially there of throughout its length. In a modification shown in Fig.11 a cathode block 32 having a relatively short slit is moved along the length of the blade edge during machining and is maintained in correct relation to the said edge by a follower 36 of insulating material. The electrolyte may be circulated from a tank under gas pressure Fig.1, (not shown).
