Abstract

1302880 Gelatine compositions AGFAGEVAERT 3 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 63522/69 Addition to 1178546 Heading C3H [Also in Division G2] Photographic coatings contain an hydrophilic colloid such as gelatin and a surface-active agent of the formula shown in parent Specification 1,178,546, wherein one or more oxypropylene units have been introduced into the oxyethylene chain, the ratio of oxyethylene units to oxypropylene units being at least 2. The surface-active agent is preferably of the formula where A is methylene, methylene substituted by C 1 -C 5 alkyl, or ethylene; R is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon or an aliphatic carboxylic acyl group; M is H, alkali metal, ammonium or organic ammonium; n and m are each 0-40; p is 1-20; q is such that pq is at least 1 and at most 20; and the total number of oxyethylene units being at least 5 and at most 40 and the ratio of oxyethylene units to oxypropylene units being at least 2. The coating containing the surface-active agent may be a silver halide emulsion layer, an antihalation, filter, intermediate or anticurling layer or a gelatin receptor layer for imbibition printing. The surface-active agent may be used with other such agents, e.g. sodium isotetradecyl sulphate.
