Abstract

1302108 Continuous casting ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 20 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24335/70 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions F4 and H2] The flow of molten metal from a container 11 is controlled by a polyphase electromagnetic pump comprising a winding 14 arranged around an inclined outlet pipe 13 and supplied with a voltage whose value is controlled by a transducer sensing, e.g., the level of metal in a continuous casting mould 17, or the weight of an intermediate ladle 16. The winding 14 is surrounded by an iron core 15. The metal level may be sensed by a contact level gauge 18, an X-ray gauge or a photo-cell controlled gauge. The weight of the ladle 16, including the metal contained in it, may be sensed by a magnetostrictive transducer 21, Fig. 2 (not shown). The transducer controls a voltage regulator 20 comprising e.g. a transformer, an induction regulator or a potentiometer. There may be more than one outlet pipe 13, each having its own pump for multi-run casting.
