Abstract

1301190 Electric couplings RCA CORPORATION 4 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 37578/70 Heading H2E [Also in Division F4] A heat-dissipating electrical connection between a voltage source 23 and an electrical device 17, e.g. an electron tube or klystron, comprises an electrically and thermally conducting member 12 with an evacuable cavity 24, the walls of the cavity having a lining 26 of e.g. copper sponge, whereby heat reaching regions 30 and 32 causes vaporization of volatile liquid from the sponge, and this is condensed, as indicated by the arrows, at cooler regions 34 where the heat is dissipated by fins 40. The condensed liquid is recycled by capillary movement. The liquid is selected according to the operating temperatures and may be e.g. water or acetone. The capillary structure may alternatively be wire mesh.
