Abstract

1301007 Coloured cross-linked aminoplast resin particles CIBA GEIGY AG 30 July 1970 [7 Aug 1969] 36841/70 Heading C3R Pigments are prepared by forming a particulate infusible cross-linked resin by acidifying a single phase aqueous system containing one or more aminoplast-forming nitrogen compounds and one or more aldehydes, or a soluble precondensate of these, and a protective colloid or a surface-active substance, drying and deagglomerating the product, and incorporating a soluble dyestuff in the resin before or during its manufacture. Suitable components for the aminoplast include urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, melamine and the guanamines, and formaldehyde, aldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, acrolein, crotonaldehyde and benzaldehyde. Suitable colloids, surfactants and dyes are also listed. In the examples precondensates from melamine and formaldehyde (molar ratio 1 : 2) and urea and formaldehyde (1 : 1À5) are acidified i.p.o. sodium carboxymethylcellulose, tragacanth, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene oxide, sodium alginate, beta-hydroxypropylcellulose, oleyl alcohol/ethylene oxide adduct or sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, and various watersoluble dyes, by addition of the precondensate plus dye to the acidified colloid solution, or addition of the precondensate plus colloid to the acidified dye.
