Abstract
1300855 Sodium percarbonate SOLVAY & CIE 14 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1900/71 Heading C1A Sodium percarbonate of the formula is produced in the form of abrasion-resistant granules, by evaporation, in a fluidized-bed drier, of the water present in an aqueous mixture comprising sodium percarbonate, by a process in which the evaporation is carried out continuosly in the constant presence of inorganic per-salt nuclei whose dimensions are smaller than those of the granules withdrawn from the drier. The drier may be supplied with an aqueous suspension of sodium percarbonate derived from a partial crystallization thereof. It is also possible for the drier to be separately supplied with the said nuclei and with either an aqueous solution of sodium percarbonate or with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate. The nuclei may comprise particles of sodium percarbonate or particles of other inorganic persalts e.g. sodium perborate or a perhydrated phosphate. The nuclei may be formed in situ in the drier by mechanical disintegration of a portion of the granules formed during the evaporation. Advantageously the sodium percarbonate is formed in the presence of a stabilizer, e.g. sodium silicate, magnesium sulphate or magnesium silicate, which may be formed in situ.
