Abstract

1300550 Safes CHUBB & SONS LOCK & SAFE CO Ltd 28 Jan 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 5728/ 69 Heading E1A A panel for making safes/strongrooms comprises a drill-resistant or punch-layer such as nuggets of hard material in a copper matrix and a backing layer of material adapted to resist the heat of a thermal lance. The backing layer may be in the form of blocks 12 of graphite, which fit into compartments defined by metallic spacing members 13. Steel plates 5, 8 and 14, 15 serve as encasing members for the two layers. A number of such double layer units may be combined to form a multilayer construction or alternatively the individual layers may be combined with layers of other material. Certain compounds of tantalum, titanium or zirconium may be used instead of graphite. For minor details such as size of nuggets, spacing of parts, thickness of copper matrix &c. the Specification should be referred to.
