Abstract

1300452 Haymaking machines MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG 22 Oct 1970 [30 Oct 1969] 50176/70 Heading A1F A rake-head for a haymaking machine comprises a housing 3 rotating about the axle 2, the housing 3 carrying spokes 11 fitted with spring mounted prongs 12. The spokes 11 are mounted in sleeves 13 fixed to the housing and contain pins 14 engaging in slots 15 which enable the spokes 11 to turn axially raising the prongs 12 from the ground as the spokes move inwardly towards the axle 2. A spring 16 is attached between each spoke 11 and sleeve 13 and serves to retain the prongs 12 in their raised transport position. In operation, as the rake-head rotates, the spokes 11 are drawn outwardly by centrifugal force against the action of the spring 16. The ground wheel 6 is mounted on an axle 5 which is fixed relative to the axle 2 by an arm 4 and which contains a rotatable disc 19 engaging links 20, the other end of which is displaceably mounted in an extension 21 of the spoke 11. The disc 19, arm 4, pins 14 and slots 15 serve to pull the spokes 11 inwardly over a portion of their path, thus periodically raising the prongs 12, The prongs 12 are fitted with sliding shoes 29 to enable them to adapt more easily to irregularties in the ground level, and for the same reason, the spokes 11 contain a sliding skid 23 adjustable by means of the bolt 27 and holes 28. After switching off the drive to the rake-head the spokes 11 are drawn inwardly by the springs 16 and turned by the pins 14 and slots 15 to raise the prongs. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the spokes 43 are mounted in a neck 53 fixed to an extension 39 of the housing 33, and the raising of the prongs 44 over a portion of their path is effected by links 50 provided with stops 55, and an eccentric 48 having a cam track 49. As the spokes 43 are pulled inwardly by the links 50 during rotation, the prongs 44 are raised by the rollers 47 moving in helical slots 42. After operation the spokes are pulled inwardly by the springs 51 and the prongs are raised for transport purposes.
