Abstract

1299922 Cooling towers BALTIMORE AIRCOIL CO Inc 30 Jan 1970 [21 May 1969 27 Oct 1969] 38288/72 Divided out of 1299921 Heading F4K An injection type evaporative cooling tower comprises a plurality of mutually spaced nozzles 87 spraying water to be cooled into a Venturi conduit of rectangular cross-section having a flared mouth portion 84, a throat portion 88 and a diffuser portion 89, cooling air being sucked in and admixed with the water issuing from the nozzles. The sprays from the nozzle 87 are conical or fan shaped and are arranged to impinge on one another so as to spray water over the whole of the cross-section of the conduit. The Venturi conduit is fitted downwardly at a slight angle in the direction of flow. Cooled water is recovered in a sump 92 which forms part of the lower wall of the diffuser portion. Mist eliminators 90 are provided to remove water from the air leaving the conduit.
