Abstract

1299839 Spray drying MORINAGA MILK INDUSTRY Co Ltd 30 Jan 1970 [1 Feb 1969 28 March 1969] 15477/72 Divided out of 1298873 Heading BIB Concentrated milk or other liquor is dried by spraying it from pressure type swirl nozzle 104 into a tower 101 which is supplied with hot air H; the liquor is sprayed in the form of a generally conical sheet 103 but, when the particles are almost dried, they begin to fall vertically, and at this stage they are impinged upon by fine particles of dried product guided from supply means 114 by baffles 116 and 117. A small amount of cool air may be supplied from annular passage 118. In a modified apparatus (Fig. 3, not shown), the fine particles are ejected onto the partially dried spray from a plurality of pipes. The particles of the partially dried spray may be impinged, and thus coated, with a different material, e.g. fats.
