Abstract

1299795 Disc brakes; adjusting brakes; actuators BARKAS-WERKE VEB 20 March 1970 13494/70 Headings F2E and F2F A disc brake assembly for a motor vehicle comprises yokes 12, 13 slidably mounted on supports 16, 16a which yokes carry brake shoes 2, 3 on either side of a disc 9 and a respective diaphragm 1 mounted on each yoke 12 or 13 actuable by fluid pressure 10 in a chamber 14 to move the shoe 2, 3 towards the disc 9, the pressure in chamber 14 also acting via a respective piston 5 on yoke displacing wedge members 6, 6a so that to compensate for clearance between a brake lining 4 of each shoe 2, 3 and the disc 9 exceeding a predetermined normal clearance the piston 5 is responsive to the fluid pressure exceeding a predetermined amount to move the yokes 12, 13 towards the disc 9 via the wedge members 6 or 6a. The fluid pressure is admitted to chamber 14 via an inlet socket 7 and is communicated to a cylinder 15 housing piston 5 via a passage 11, the diaphragm 1 is connected to chamber 14 via an extendable bellows. To limit the displacement of wedge members 6, 6a a spring loaded ball contact device is co-operable with a groove 18 in piston 5 and this device provides an indication of brake lining wear. The brake is applicable mechanically by means of a pressure pin 8. The two components 2, 3 of the shoe are fitted together by a dovetail joint. As shown in Fig. 2 the yokes 12, 13 are slidable only on support 16a, the support 16 being a pivotal connection. Further the disc brake assembly may only comprise one yoke.
