Abstract

1299592 Releasable fasteners F T PRODUCTS Ltd 26 March 1970 [8 April 1969] 17821/69 Heading E2B A fastener for attaching an elongate article or articles 35 to an apertured support 36 comprises a body 11, a hollow shank projecting from one face of the body, a bore through the body and a pin 14 having a head 28 at its trailing end which is adapted to be struck down through the bore in the body and into the bore of the shank to secure the shank in the aperture in the support, a groove 16 being formed across face of the body other than said one face to receive the article or articles and the head of the pin being adapted to close the groove in the body when the pin is located in the shank in a given angular position relative thereto, the pin being rotatable in the shank to rotate the head away from said angular position to open the groove. In the construction shown the shank is split axially to provide two tongues 22, 23 and the bore through the shank is tapered towards the free end so that when the pin is moved axially into the bore in the shank the tongues are moved upwardly to grip the wall of the aperture in the support. The groove 16 is sloped downwardly in both directions from its mid point and is formed with transverse ribs. Extending upwardly from one end portion of the body is a wall 19 provided with a lip 20 having a flat abutment surface 21 facing the pin 14 and a convex ramping surface 21a. The head of the pin has a generally flat under-surface 29, and a groove 30 extends from the upper surface, which is adapted to receive a screw driver to rotate a pin, the head has a cam 31 having a flat face 32 for engaging the surface 21a and a flat face 33 projecting upwardly from the cam 31 for engaging the flat surface 21. When the pin is rotated to hold the elongated article or articles in the groove 16 the head rides over. the article or articles until the face 32 engages the face 21a; this causes the wall 19 and lip 20 to be flexed outwardly and upwardly respectively so that the article or articles is clamped tightly in the groove 16; further rotation of the head is prevented when the flat abutment face 33 of the head registers with the flat abutment surface 21. Lengthwise movement of the article or articles through the groove 16 is resisted by the ribs 18. In a modification the groove 16 instead of being of rectangular cross section as shown is of arcuate cross section and it is formed with only a single transverse rib; the faces corresponding to the faces 32 and 21a are also inclined. In a further modification the lip 20 is formed with an abutment surface lying in a radial plane with respect to the axis of rotation of the pin and the head is formed with a similar abutment surface which co-operates with the radial abutment surface to limit rotation of the head. A further modification is described in which the groove 16 is formed in a wall which projects upwardly at one end portion of the body, the head of the pin engaging a side of the cable to clamp the cable in the groove, the end face of head being vertically disposed. The head bends the wall out slightly so that its resilience holds the head in place.
