Abstract

1299442 Reciprocating pumps and motors J L MONKS 26 March 1970 [27 March 1969] 15992/69 Heading F1A An hydraulic pump or motor comprises a rotor 1 having radially extending rectangular slots 6 and roller pistons 7 disposed in the slots to contact a surrounding cam surface 12a. To assist in sealing, two smaller rollers 9 or sealing strips are urged by a spring-loaded support plate 10 into the angles between the opposing slot side walls and the inner peripheral surface of its roller. The rotor 1 is relatively rotatable with respect to the cam surface and a central pintle 3, the pintle having inlet and outlet passages 17, 21 which sequentially register with ports 13 in communication with the slots 6. The embodiment shown operates as a motor and may be modified, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), to provide two banks (B1, B2) of pistons in separate transverse planes, one or both banks being in communication with the passages 17, 21 so as to provide two speed operation. A further embodiment which operates as a pump, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) has an elliptical cam surface and a pintle relatively adjustable with respect to the cam surface.
