Abstract
1297968 Heat exchangers SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 5 Dec 1969 [5 Dec 1968] 59553/69 Heading F4S. In a fin and tube radiator assembly comprising a plurality of tubes 1 the ends of which are received in and welded to flanged apertures 2 in headers 4, spacing means are provided such that contact between the corrugated fins 6 and the headers is spot or short line contact. This precludes weld material, during welding from being attracted by capillary action away from the zones in which the tubes are joined to the headers. As shown the terminal edges 6a of the fins 6 bear against depressions 7 which are formed in the headers and constitute the spacing means. The depressions may be oblong (Fig. 2) or hemispherical (Fig. 3). In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the terminal edges (6b) of the fins are serrated, the serrations constituting the spacing means.
