1297686 Tape loading SONY CORP 13 Nov 1970 [24 Jan 1970] 54223/70 Heading G5R A tape 16 is withdrawn from a cassette 11 and wrapped around a heads drum 79 by fingers 63f -66# on arms 63-66, the arms being moved linearly from B to A and then being rotated to form the loop L, the arm 66 rotating oppositely to arms 63, 64, 65. The arms, and a gear 59 in the shape of a figure six, are mounted on a sliding plate 46, and when the linear part of the gear is being driven the arms move linearly, but when the curved part is driven the arms rotate. A system of springs (70, Fig. 3, not shown), lugs (68, 69) and an abutment (63a) produce the desired angular separations of the arms 63, 64 and 65 whilst co-operation between a cam surface (67b) on arm 65 and a pin (66a) on arm 66 causes the arm 66 to rotate as shown in Fig. 1 The fingers 63#-66# are located in the initial position B with the aid of a linkage system (39, 41, Fig. 2, not shown) between the cassette holder 12 and the pivoted loading plate 45, as described in Specification 1,297,687, and the tape may be dropped from the fingers in the loop position L by making the cam surface lipped (67a) so that the arm 66 is abruptly moved back when the lip is reached, or by using an arm (65<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, not shown) which folds inwards when a stop (121) is reached.
