Abstract

1297596 Fluoran compounds NISSO KAKO CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 25112/71 Heading C4P [Also in Division D2] The invention comprises fluoran compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 5 independently represent hydrogen, halogen or alkyl, provided that all 3 do not represent hydrogen; and R 3 and R 4 independently represent hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted benzyl or 1-naphthylmethyl group. Suitable substituents are halogen atoms or alkyl groups. The compounds are prepared by heating a compound of formula together with a p-aminophenol of formula in the presence of sulphuric acid. The compounds are used as colour-forming components in pressure-sensitive copying papers.
