Abstract

1297377 Testing printed circuit boards PLESSEY CO Ltd 12 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969] 58191/69 Heading G1U The conductors on a printed circuit board are tested for continuity by bringing the board into intimate contact with a complementary board so designed that if the board under test contains no faults one or more continuous circuit paths are formed which may be tested for continuity by measuring their resistance. Prior to such measurement a high current (e.g. 2 amps) may be passed along each path so as to burn out any thin conductors, and the result of the measurement may be indicated by the lighting of two lamps if the resistance is less than a pre-set low value, e.g. 1 to 10 ohms, by the lighting of one lamp if the resistance is higher than the pre-set low value but less than 100 ohms, and by the lighting of no lamp if the resistance exceeds 100 ohms.
