Abstract

1297151 Austenitic cast iron INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 27 Aug 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 44695/69 Heading C7A An austenitic cast iron comprises in weight %:- C 2À5-4 Mn 2À5-4À5 Ni 4-9À5 Cu 0-3 Mg up to 0À15 if necessary Mo 0-0À5 N 0-0À15 Si up to 2À5, the Mn content being 3-4À5 if flake graphite is required and 2À5-4 with added Mg if the graphite is to be spheroidal, the balance, apart from impurities, such as:- Cr up to 0À5, but preferably Cr free P up to 0À05 and S up to 0À05, being Fe. The alloy may be homogenized at at least 900‹C., quenched in air or oil and possibly tempered at 200‹C. followed by air cooling. The alloys may be used for wear rings in chemical decomposers, diesel engine cylinder livers, grinding mill liners and discharge grates or grizzly screens and scrapers used in one treatment. Also for sewage works parts cable lifters, derrick block sheaves, pumps, valves and support brackets.
