Abstract
1296916 Supercharged I. C. engines; treating charge SOC ANON DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D'EQUIPMENTS MECANIQUES SAVIEM 18 June 1970 [26 June 1969] 29731/70 Heading F1B Liquid fuel and a liquid additive, e.g. engine lubricating oil, are supplied to the intake pipe 10 of a compression ignition engine 1 upstream of a gear type pump, e.g. a Roots blower 3, through pipes 13 and 14 and respective orifices 16 and 17. An exhaust gas driven compressor 2 supplies air to the pump 3 through a heat exchanger 11 supplied with engine cooling water. The engine crank-shaft drives the pump 3 through a belt 5 or a variable speed transmission, e.g. a V-belt or an hydraulic pump and motor transmission. Liquid fuel is supplied to the orifice 16 and a direct injection pump 9 by a feed pump 8. The pipe 13 contains a non-return valve 23 and a manually operable stop cock 22. A valve 24 in the lubricating oil supply pipe 14 from the oil pump 7 may be intermittently opened by an electrical or mechanical control. A further liquid additive may be fed to the orifice 17 through a pipe 25 and cock 26. Liquid collecting in the intake manifold 20 is returned to the intake pipe 10 through a pipe 15 and an orifice 18 of capillary dimensions.
