Abstract

1296336 Feeding sheets FERAG & REIST AG 16 July 1971 [21 July 1970] 33449/71 Heading B8R A newspaper 1, Fig. 5, comprises twicefolded sheets forming a main fold 3 and secondary folds at the leading end, and is fed along a guide rail 20 by conveyer bands 4, 37 towards a separation wedge 68. Pressure is exerted on a surface of the newspaper in the vicinity of the fold 3 and towards the leading end by a roller 27 carried by a link of a chain 23, and this causes separation of the sheet portions on the two sides of the fold 3 to form a gap 8 into which enters a portion 69 of the wedge 68. An insert is then dropped into the opening through a shoot 70. In another form, Fig. 6, the roller 27 serves only as a conveying element, and the pressure is exerted by a plate 53 revolving about a shaft 51, the plate also urging the paper towards the rail 20. In another form, Fig. 7, for paper products too thin to be fed in a vertical position, the product 1 is conveyed on a horizontal belt 71. Pressure is exerted by rollers 27, and also a roller 81 on an arm 81 carried by a chain 73 flexes downwardly the main fold section of the product, which projects beyond the belt 71. A separation member 84 has an edge 86 parallel to the product and twists into a vertical section 87. The main fold is pressed into an angle formed between a further conveyer band 82 and a vertically disposed band 88.
