Abstract

1296137 Deaf aids K SCHOEPS 6 April 1970 [29 July 1969] 16174/70 Heading H4J A hearing aid employs an electrostatic microphone and a directional receiver and is arranged to eliminate acoustic feedback. As described the polarization voltage for the microphone is provided by an electret, by a direct current transformer or a separate power source. The output of the microphone is amplified by a fieldeffect transistor which may be in an integrated circuit. The receiver is either a pressure gradient receiver or a pressure gradient/pressure receiver. The direction of orientation of the receiver relative to the microphone is such as to reduce acoustic feedback. The directional characteristics may be adjustable by the wearer. It is stated that for electrostatic receivers of the pressure type elastic damping is required and for those of pressure-gradient type frictionchecked damping is required and that this is compatible with the small dimensions of a hearing aid allowing the resonance points of the aid to be outside the transmission range.
