Abstract

1295044 Seat slides COX OF WATFORD Ltd 19 Nov 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 55477/68 Heading A4J [Also in Division F2] A slide for a vehicle seat has two slidable channel shaped members 11,12 between opposing surfaces of which are balls or rollers 14 which carry load during movement of the slides, the arrangement being such that one of the channel members may deform under load so that load may be transmitted between the members either only through the balls or rollers when the arrangement is under a certain load, or through contacting surfaces 45, 46 of the members when under a higher load. The arrangement may also be such, that there is contact between other surfaces of the channels at loads lower than that at which there is contact only through the rolling elements. Plastics interlayers (16,17) Figs.4 and 5 (not shown) may be provided between the members to facilitate sliding when the members are in contact. The members are provided with fixing means at portions out of contact with the balls or rollers. The channel members may be provided with stops (21)Fig.2(not shown) which cooperate with balls or rollers to limit the movement of the members. In addition a latch may be pivoted on a pin fixed to one wall of a member for engagement with a series of notches in the other channel for locking the members in a chosen position. In use one member is secured to the vehicle seat and one to the floor. The arrangement is such that the weight of the occupant deforms the member so that contact is through the rolling elements only, thereby facilitating adjustment of the slide when the seat is occupied, and also that under high loads occurring e.g. during a collision, the load is not borne solely by the balls or rollers.
