Abstract
1294970 Work-holders DAYTON PROGRESS CORP 22 Oct 1970 [29 April 1970] 50268/70 Heading B3B A work-holder, for holding a tool or a workpiece, has a bracket 35 pivotally mounted on a base 10 and mounts a pair of rollers 60, 60<SP>1</SP> for receiving and supporting between them the tool or workpiece; a bearing device presses the tool or workpiece against the rollers, one of which presents a resilient surface to the workpiece or tool. As shown, the device includes driven rollers 60, 60<SP>1</SP>, the latter of which is mounted on a shaft which is relatively eccentric to a mounting portion (Fig. 5, not shown), whereby the spacing between rollers 60, 60<SP>1</SP> can be varied. One or both rollers has 0-rings 67 (Fig. 4) for transmitting drive to a workpiece supported by the rollers. Drive to the latter is from an electric motor 13 via a toothed belt 18. The bracket 35 upon which the rollers are mounted can be tilted relative to the base 10 of the device, e.g. for producing a taper on a workpiece. Thus, a rod 32 acting between the base and bracket affords a pivot axis. The degree of tilt is determined by the use of a selected gauge block inserted between parts of the base and bracket. The tilt is adjustable by means of a device embodying nuts 41 and a screw 39. A lever 65 is pivoted to bracket 35 and, via a roller 97 applies a force to urge a workpiece into contact with the rollers 60, 60<SP>1</SP>. The roller 97 may be set to rotate about an axis which is inclined at a small angle to the axes of rollers 60, 60<SP>1</SP>, whereby axial movement of the workpiece can be achieved. The force is determined by a lever 84 which co-operates with cam surfaces 87 on lever 65. Front and rear adjustable work stops 104, 99 are provided. In a modification (Figs. 7, 9 and 10, not shown), the roller 97 is replaced by a device embodying a pair of spaced rollers (120) at one end and a thin blade (115) at the other end.
