Abstract

1294401 Self-righting vessel RCA CORPORATION 21 Jan 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 2880/70 Headings B7A B7M and B7V A self-righting vessel has a counterweight 23 fixed to the bottom 18 of its hull 10 and has flotation members 32 fixed in a raised position above the deck 14 such that at a predetermined angle of tilt of the vessel in calm water a member 32 engages the water surface at a predetermined distance from the hull. The buoyancy of the hull and flotation members and their weights and that of the counterweight are proportioned with regard to these distances so as to create a resultant self-righting moment on the hull in all positions of tilt of the vessel. In the embodiment shown the flotation members are rigid elongated curved members of streamlined cross-section which act as sails and the counterweight is fixed at the end of a combined fin and rudder member 16.
