Abstract

1294338 Compacting powders DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT 6 Nov 1969 [8 Nov 1968] 54412/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] Finely divided materials are compacted into a covering on a rotating filter roller 2 having a porous surface by suction and the covering is then compacted to at least half its volume by a counter-rotating filter or solid roller 3 and moulded with a profiled surface provided on one of the rollers. As shown in Fig. 1, material from hopper 14 falls through space 5 on to filter roller 2. The layer formed thereon is levelled by adjustable doctor blade 10 and is compacted by roller 3 having longitudinal grooves 4 of curved section. The reduced pressure in filter roller 2 is regulated through valve 13a by transducer 13e and controller 13b. The filter roller 2 is displaceably mounted on bearings 9 having hydraulic pressure generators 8 operated by pump 12a, the circuit including excess pressure valves 12d, pressure-release cylinders 12c and manometer 12b. After passing through the roller gap, the microcylinders formed are cut into granules by disc breaker 11. The filter roller (Fig. 2, not shown) has a hollow shaft (21) having holes (21a), an inner, perforated casing (24) and an outer surface of wafer-thin plates (26) of sintered material and welded at the ends to plates (22). Stiffening ribs (23) may be incorporated.
