1294020 Mounting parts on shafts INTERTECH DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 28 May 1971 [6 July 1970] 32616/70 Heading F2U A tubular boss L (e.g. of a steering-wheel I) having mounting surfaces X, Y projecting radially inwardly of its bore is mountable on an inner member U (which may have a splined or tapered and keyed bore) having radially outwardly projecting mounting surfaces V, W so that selected parts of the surfaces V ... Y are engageable to locate the boss on the sleeve in any one of a plurality of axial positions. As shown, the member U is reversible and may be inserted into either end of the boss L, each surface X, Y being engageable with surfaces V, W, thereby providing twelve axial positions. The surfaces V ... Y may be helical in which case there may also be a splined connection between the hub and the boss. There may also be a slip-ring S mounted on an insulating member R through which pass screws T clamping the members R and U to the boss L. The steering wheel I may include a horn button assembly in which a steel plate D is biased by springs E out of electrical contact with any metal part of the boss. The wheel may have a plastics skirt M shaped to match the vehicle trim.
