Abstract

1293970 Fixing tool for electrical connectors IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 April 1971 [20 May 1970] 24422/70 Heading B4W [Also in Division H2] Two wires are connected by placing them in a slot 19 in a hollow insulating base 13 (Fig. 1) and squeezing inwardly an insulating plug 11 which carries a contact blade 14 until the blade cuts the insulation 20, 21 and contacts the conductors 20<SP>1</SP>, 21<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 4). The contact blade is received in a slot 18 while a cutter 17 severs the wires. Petroleum jelly can be put in the hollow base to waterproof and insulate the joint. Suitable synthetic plastics materials for the connector are polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or nylon. A tool for use with the connector comprises two jaws 34, 35 on two arms 32, 33 (Fig. 6), one jaw (35) mounted resiliently by a spring 36, and a punch 40 to press the plug 11 into the base 13. A supply of connectors is spring- urged forward in a housing, and an additional magazine of connectors may be clipped to the housing.
