Abstract

1293668 Floating structures G CORSO 9 Nov 1970 [20 Nov 1969] 53163/70 Heading E1H A platform 1 supported above the high-tide wave crest level by rigid elements 3 connected to a hollow body 2 submerged below the lowtide weir trough level, and displacing a weight of water greater than the weight of the platform 1, body 2 and the maximum anticipated load on the platform, is anchored by cables 13 to the sea (&c) bed to prevent it moving or rotating. Two other cable 13 arrangements, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) are illustrated. The body 2 may have a tower 7 extending to a water-tight hatch (9) Fig. 2 (not shown) and containing a ladder (10) and a pipe (17) through which air and/or water may be pumped for ballasting during transport and while fixing the cables 13. A number of such platforms 1 and bodies 2 may be releasably joined, to form floating factories, buildings, car parks, airport runways, ports or pier supports. Platforms having a central vertical wall may be assembled in groups to form a breakwater.
