1292494 Adding titanium to steel or iron L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 25 Feb 1970 [4 March 1969] 9192/70 Addition to 1131570 Heading C7D A chloride of titanium, particularly the tetrachloride, is introduced through a porous plug into molten ferrous material containing a substantial amount of aluminium to reduce the chloride; the aluminium may be added prior to or during the treatment, which also serves to remove manganese. Any residual chlorine may be eliminated by addition of a calcium alloy. As illustrated, chloride from vessel 24 is pressurized by argon and discharged through porous plug 6 into metal contained in induction furnace 2.
