Abstract

1291780 Sling jacket O D BECKETT 29 Dec 1970 61559/70 Heading A5R A double arm-sling jacket comprises a flexible back panel 13 with a pair of flexible flaps 70, 71 extending laterally from the sides 16, 17 of the panel for attachment in use to a pair of flexible wing panels 31, 32 mounted at the top of the back panel, each wing panel being provided with cooperating fastening members so that it may be formed into a pouch for the accommodation of a forearm. The wing panels are attached to a shoulder yoke 21 so that the adjacent inner edges of the wing panels and yoke define an opening for the neck. The jacket is applied to the patient by placing the back panel 13 at his back, draping the wing panels 31 and 32 over each shoulder and looping the end portion 44 of the wing panels under the patients arms and connecting hooks 46, 47 on the end portion to corresponding eyes 48, 49, 50, 51 on the inside of each wing panel. The provision of alternative pairs of eyes 48, 50 allows the pouch for the arm to be adjusted. The flexible flaps 70, 71 are attached to the front of each wing panel by buttons, and provide an abutment and support for the elbow and upper arm. An elastic belt 18 is situated at the base of the back panel.
