Abstract

1291153 Tube couplings WOODS OF COLCHESTER Ltd 28 May 1971 [11 June 1970] 28284/70 Heading F2G [Also in Division H2] A corrugated flexible conduit 7, for protecting electrical leads between an electric motor and terminal box for example, is connected in an aperture in a wall 8 of the motor casing or terminal box by a connector comprising screw threaded shell portions 1, 1<SP>1</SP> each having internal projections 3, 4 for engaging the conduit and an external flange 2 which abuts the aperture edge. Lugs and recesses 5, 6 on the abutting surfaces of the shells ensure correct continuity of the screw thread and flanges 2, 2<SP>1</SP>. As shown in Fig. 1, the projections 3, 4 comprise arcuate ridge pairs which engage in the corrugations of the conduit 7 when the shells 1, 1<SP>1</SP> are disposed round a conduit end. As shown in Fig. 3, the connector may be retained in the aperture by a nut 10 or the threaded portion of the connector may be received directly in a threaded boss (11) (Fig. 4, not shown) on the casing wall. The connector portions 1, 1<SP>1</SP> may be injection moulded rigid thermoplastic material such as polyphenylene oxide. In another embodiment, a spigot extension (15) (Fig. 5, not shown), of greater diameter than the threaded portion (13, 13<SP>1</SP>) is provided between the flanges (14, 14<SP>1</SP>) and threaded portions for reception in an enlarged aperture. The flanges (14, 14<SP>1</SP>) are axially extended and have lugs (18) for easy gripping to facilitate placement of the connector into an aperture.
