Abstract

1290981 Purifying benzene carboxylic acids MOBIL OIL CORP 21 Jan 1970 2866/70 Heading C2C A recrystallization process comprises circulating a slurry containing a crystalline benzene carboxylic acid suspended in a saturated solution of the acid in a solvent around a closed system into which a stream of charge slurry is introduced for recrystallization and from which a stream of recrystallized slurry product is withdrawn, repeatedly heating the circulating slurry through a temperature differential in a heating zone in the system and repeatedly cooling the heated slurry through substantially the same temperature differential to a recrystallization temperature in a cooling zone in the system. Numerous solvents are specified for use in the process. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described referring to Figs. 1-3 (not shown). The treatment of a slurry of terephthalic acid in acetic acid is described.
