1290679 Partitions; structural members R SEGER 19 Aug 1969 [22 March 1969] 41288/ 69 Headings E1K and E1W A dismantleable and reassemblable temporary separating wall or structure is provided by erecting on a base two upright piers 1, 1' connected at top and bottom by substantially horizontal cross braces 3', 3 respectively, the piers being provided with an element of a tongue and groove connection, said elementtongue 4 or groove 6-terminating at a point 4' or 6' which is a distance h at least equal to the height h' of a wall panel 2 below the cross brace 3' and extending continuously to substantially the base of the pier, and introducing a wall panel 2 having a connection element complementary to that on the pier into engagement with said pier element via the interrupted zone at h and displacing the panel downwardly to seat on the cross brace 3 or a previously inserted wall panel. Preferably the upper and lower edge faces of the wall panels are provided with complementary tongue and groove elements for co-operation with each other or with the top of the cross brace 3. As shown, the piers which may be made in one piece or in two vertically adjustable portions 27, 28 and provided with adjustment feet (see Fig. 6 not shown) are formed by tubes of triangular, square, hexagonal or circular cross-section provided either with three, four or six tongues 4 arranged in equiangularly spaced array for engaging in slots 5 in wall panels 2" or with outer tubes of generally square, hexagonal or octagonal cross section in which are formed three, four or six equiangularly spaced longitudinal grooves 6 which receive tongues 7 of panels 2, 2'. The panels 2 and the cross braces 3, 3' may comprise members formed with parallel tubular horizontal openings (see Figs. 6, 7 not shown). Modified wall panels to which are secured a table 2a, a cupboard 45 or a shelf 2c" (Fig. 4 not shown) may be employed instead of the panels 2. The cross braces are secured to the piers by fittings commonly used on headboards of beds and comprising a headed bolt secured to the cross brace engaging in a key-hole arrangement in the base of the channel of the slot 6 the constriction of which key-hole grips the bolt with a wedging action. The various elements may be of wood, steel anodised aluminium or plastic such as hard P.V.C.
