Abstract

1290557 Glass fibre reinforced bar BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 21 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 49951/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division Cl] A bar 1 comprises at least one stiffening core 3 extending through a bundle of longitudinally extending glass fibres 2, the fibres being bonded to each other and to the core by a hardened synthetic resin. Such a bar is produced by passing a bundle of wet resin impregnated longitudinally extending glass fibres 2 surrounding the stiffening core 3 through a heated die orifice which simultaneously forms the bundle into the desired shape and bakes the resin hard. The bar is preferably a slot closure wedge of trapezoidal cross-section in which the core is formed by one or more strip inserts of non-magnetic steel. The insert may have a number of longitudinally spaced openings formed therein. The core may additionally include a bundle of glass fibres 5 helically wound round the insert.
