Abstract

JUSTUS RIEKER & CO] 14 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969 23 May 1970] 59236/70 Heading A3B In a ski-boot of the type in which the foot portion 2 and leg portion 3 of its upper are bendable relative to one another, the bending movement is restricted by connecting means fixing the relative position of the leg portion 3 and foot portion 2, the relative position being infinitely variably adjustable. Preferably the connecting means holds the relative positions fixed until the force tending to bend the leg portion exceeds a predetermined value. In a first embodiment (Figs. 1, 2) the upper has cut-outs 4, 5 which allows the upper to bend about web 6. Elements 7, 8 are secured to the upper portions 2, 3, element 7 being pivoted to piston rod 10 and element 8 being pivoted to cylinder 9. The piston rod 10 has a piston 12 consisting of a resilient plug 13 sandwiched between pressure plates 14, 16. Plate 16 can be adjusted by screw 15 to expand the plug 13 and thus adjust the force necessary to shift the piston in the cylinder 9. Stop nuts 21, 22 determine the limits of movement of the piston 12. In a modification (not shown) the plug 13 can be expanded by a cone shaped member screwed onto the piston rod 10. In a second embodiment (not shown) the piston is located in a closed cylinder filled with fluid, there being adjustable throttle means to allow the fluid to flow from one side of the piston to the other. In a third embodiment (Fig. 6) the upper parts 2, 3 are connected by a device 31 consisting of two discs having a friction washer therebetween. The discs are forced together by a nut which allows the relative positions of the parts 2, 3 to be adjusted.
